SPC FRAMEWORK · DIAGNOSTIC

You’re not stuck because
you lack motivation.

You know what needs to change. You want the goal. You’ve even tried — morning routines, accountability buddies, apps, willpower. And nothing moves. Weeks turn into months. The goal sits there, untouched, like a seed that won’t germinate no matter how much you water it.

The problem isn’t laziness. Laziness doesn’t usually come with this kind of frustration and self-judgment. What you’re experiencing is a system failure, not a character failure. And the good news: once you diagnose which part of the system broke, movement is almost automatic.

“A goal that belongs to someone else will always feel like resistance. A goal that’s truly yours feels like arrival — even in the struggle.”

Let me name five reasons people get stuck, and how to tell which one is yours.

1. The goal isn’t actually yours. You inherited it. It came from someone else’s dream — a business coach’s formula, your mother’s idea of success, what Instagram told you to want. The 🥜 Seed Level is weak because there’s no real intention underneath. You can spot this: the moment you think about the goal, you feel obligation, not ownership. You tell yourself you “should” want it.

To fix this: Ask yourself: “If no one would ever know, would I still want this?” If the answer is no, the goal isn’t yours to carry. Let it go. Grieve it if you need to. Then ask: “What do I actually want?” Not what sounds good. What do you want.

2. The soil is infertile. You have a good goal, but your life doesn’t have space for it. You’re in a crisis season. You have young children. You’re rebuilding after a loss. The 🌱 Measurable Targets are clear, but the 🚜 Fertile Soil — the foundation, the time, the emotional capacity — isn’t there. Movement isn’t laziness; it’s honesty.

To fix this: Look at your life right now. Be brutally honest: do you have the soil to plant this goal in, or are you asking a seed to grow in concrete? If the answer is concrete, the choice isn’t “try harder.” The choice is: wait, or simplify the goal to match the season you’re in.

3. The goal is too vague to start. You want to “grow your business” or “be more disciplined” or “create something meaningful.” These aren’t 🏆 Targets — they’re wishes. Wishes don’t move you. Targets do. The problem isn’t your commitment. It’s that you don’t know where to begin.

To fix this: Make the goal measurable. Not motivational — measurable. “Launch an offer by June 30th.” “Write 500 words daily.” “Double my revenue to $10K/month.” Now, where do you begin? Much clearer.

4. You’re moving but nothing’s changing. You’re taking action. You’re consistent. But the outcome you’re reaching for isn’t actually created by the actions you’re taking. You’re pushing a door that only opens with a pull. The 🏃🏼 Active Development looks like movement, but it’s pointing the wrong direction.

To fix this: Stop and ask: “What outcome am I trying to create?” Then ask: “Does the action I’m taking actually create that outcome?” If the answer is no — even if the action feels productive — change the action. Productivity without direction is just busy.

5. Reaching the goal won’t change what actually needs to change. This is subtle. You get the promotion, and you’re still empty. You reach the revenue number, and you’re still anxious. You finish the project, and you’re still not satisfied. This happens when you’re trying to solve an internal problem with an external goal. The goal was never the real issue.

To fix this: Before you push harder toward the goal, ask: “Why do I want this? What will it give me?” If the answer is “I’ll finally feel worthy” or “I’ll prove I’m capable,” the work isn’t the goal. The work is reconnecting with your actual worth — which exists independent of outcomes. Once you do that, the goal either becomes clear or you realize you don’t need it.

One of these five is usually the culprit. Sometimes it’s more than one — a weak 🥜 Seed Level plus a vague 🏆 Target. Once you know which one is blocking you, the next move is obvious.
