SPC FRAMEWORK · ESSAY
The best day to automate your work is often the day you can barely stand up.
I woke up this morning with a full day already mapped out. New videos to record for a channel I have been building, everything orchestrated, the kind of day that makes you feel a little ahead of your own life. Then I stood up, and my head was pounding so hard I could barely stay on my feet.
It is a side effect of a small change my doctor and I made recently, and this week my body simply was not cooperating. I helped my daughter get out the door early, and then I did the only honest thing available to me. I went back to bed.
Lying there, I asked the question that used to frighten me: what am I actually going to do today? The old version of me would have pushed through, made hard decisions on no fuel, and paid for it later. Instead I decided to have an easy day. Work with what I had. Do the small, honest minimum that still lets me end the day feeling like I built something real.
This is the part of the SPC system (Strategic Positioning and Clarity) that I did not fully appreciate until a morning like this one. On a day with no energy for decisions, the system decides with me. I can open it and see, at a glance, the tasks that drain the least, the ones I do not have to think hard about, and the ones I can hand straight to my AI agents to run without me. I set a light intention for the day, did my morning reading (the first chapter of 1 Samuel), and let it flow.
My book arrived, the new edition, so I put on shorts (it is very hot here in Portugal right now) and drove to the post office to collect it. Opening it was warm and quietly satisfying: seeing how the graphs turned out, the little illustrations, the small details you only notice when your senses are turned all the way up. Then I came home, sat down in my office, and started building a new AI assistant whose only job is to upload those videos, so I never have to do it by hand again.

And that is the thread I actually want to pull on. Inside the SPC, everything you do that starts 🍊 Generating Fruit eventually raises the same question: how do I automate this? A result that is genuinely working becomes a 🚿 Potential Agent, a catalyst for the next thing, and from there it is ready to become an 🖥 Automation that sustains and scales without your hands on it. The SPC has been fruitful in my life and in my clients’ lives, which is exactly why automating the work around it feels obvious rather than clever.
But there is a real danger here, and it is worth naming plainly. If you automate something that is not aligned with your purpose and is not yet generating fruit, it will still grow. It will hand you a few peripheral gains and a little momentum. It will just never fulfill you, because it was never fruitful to begin with. That is the quiet cost of overworking, of not respecting your body, of making big decisions on a day you are in no condition to decide.
“Automate what is already generating fruit. Automate anything else and you only scale the emptiness, faster.”
So on a day like today, I do not have to be at 100%, because the system already holds a good part of it for me. When I am rested and clear, I will jump onto the undefined things, the decisions that need a sharp mind. On a day with nothing in the tank, I still get a clean view of what is working, what is fruitful, and what is finally ready to be handed off. Sometimes all you need is a structure solid enough to help you get on your feet and show up. And it genuinely does not matter how you show up.
It is evening now, and I feel like I accomplished so much, even though almost nothing went the way I planned it. That is what a system is for. Not for your best days, but for the ordinary ones when you simply do not know where to put your focus.
If you have ever ended a day busy but unsure whether any of it was actually fruitful, the PB Evolution Free Assessment is a short, honest self-check that shows you which phase of the SPC cycle you are standing in today. It takes a few minutes, and it points the light at what is real.
Start here → A short diagnostic that shows you which phase of the SPC cycle you are in right now, and what is ready to grow next. Free, and honest about where the real work is.
With clarity and intention,
Paula
